from 4 September 2016 to 8 January 2017
‘Maria Maddalena, tra peccato e penitenza. Da Simone Martini a Canova’ this exhibition is one of the events promoted by the Marche Regional Council to celebrate the Jubilee of Mercy. It continues the series of four shows of which two (Ascoli Piceno, 'Francesco nell'arte da Cimabue a Caravaggio'; Osimo, 'Le stanze segrete di Vittorio Sgarbi') already opened in the spring.
Mary Magdalene, understood as the pragmatic example of conversion, is the protagonist of exhibition and will be represented by 50 masterpieces from the Middle Ages to Neoclassicism. The show is hosted in the prestigious Palazzo Apostolico which already houses a valuable art collection in its twenty-eight rooms.
The Fondazione Cariplo is lending a work from its own collection for the exhibition, Mary Magdalene at the Tomb, Flemish painter, 16th century.
